Poker Pro Phil Laak after going a few rounds with an ATV

Reports from no less a reliable source than Phil Laak's own twitter-feed, confirms that the famed hoodie-wearing poker player known as The Unabomber was in an ATV accident on August 5th and broke seven bones, put his arm in a cast, and received a nasty eye injury.

Apparently, Laak was having some four-wheeling fun in the great outdoors up in Oregon when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed. By the looks of some of the photos Laak himself is posting via Twitter he is lucky to have escaped serious injury.

Phil Laak is known in the poker world for his gregarious, attention-deficit-like hijinks at the poker table that has catapulted him to being one of the most recognizable poker faces in the world. In 2004 he won a World Poker Tour title, and his total tournament winnings are approaching a cool $2 million. He's also a regular on various poker television shows like Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker, as well as hosting his own show, called I Bet You," with fellow poker pro and best friend Antonio Esfandiari. Laak is the long-time boyfriend of Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly, who won a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2005.

Laak became known widely in the poker scene as the "Unabomber" because of the hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses he wears at the table, making him resemble the forensic sketch of Theodore Kaczynski who was known as the Unabomber. Laak is known also for his unusual and inventive manner of speech. He coined the poker term "felted" to mean having lost all of one's chips (i.e. nothing left in front of the player except the table felt). He is also believed to have coined the term "pay-off wizard" (POW) to refer to someone (often himself) who makes bad river calls.

Laak set the world record in longest time spent playing poker in a single session at 115 hours, and is now being considered for a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. He completed the feat at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in early July of this year. Guinness allows one 5 minute break every hour, in which Laak could do whatever he wanted, and Laak could "bank" those 5 minute breaks into longer breaks if he played through. Laak banked several breaks to take a 30 minute nap, but even more impressively, Laak claims that he did not use any stimulants - including caffeine - while breaking the record. Upwards of 130,000 people watched him do this on a live internet stream.

We at Online Casino Advice wish Laak a speedy recovery and suggest that, in the future, he stick to motor-boating.
