Several news agencies reported that a man named Brent Eli Morris was sentenced for 8 to 20 years in prison for cheating in craps at a land-based casino in Las Vegas.

The person in question was already banned several times at different casinos in America for cheating, but now, after several fraud and cheating attempts, the only solution was to bring him to justice. He was arrested last September at Caesars Palace playing craps and trying to cheat.

A district court convicted the 54 year old man of two counts of fraud regarding gambling activities and cheating. Judge Jerry Tao also found him guilty of four gross misdemeanors for entering a gambling establishment while being banned. The judge argued that given the long criminal record of Morris, he further lengthened the sentence.

Prosecutor Rob Stephens went to explain the method Morris used to cheat at craps, namely that he slipped chips into winning areas of the table after the dice were rolled. This cheating method is called "past post betting".

Morris is a long-time blacklisted person in many Las Vegas casinos. In February 1994 he was placed by the Nevada Gambling Commission in the infamous Black Book, or better known as the List of Excluded Persons after he was caught cheating at a Lake Tahoe casino.

Last September, the vigilant Caesars Palace surveillance personnel saw a person in the casino that resembled the infamous Eli Morris, after which the immediately contacted the Gaming Control Board's enforcement division.

After Morris was arrested by security staff, it was found that he carried several stolen chips from The Orleans casino. Later it came out that besides these offenses Morris has also a long history of assault, battery, theft and fraud dating back as far as 1975.

This episode clearly proves that cheating at casinos is a very risky business, and it's something that most of the time - if not every time - gets discovered. Craps is also one of the hardest games to cheat, considering the big amount of people watching the table, plus the fast eyes of the casino supervisors who never miss a dubious move.

On the other hand, it's impossible to cheat in online carps, a reason why more and more people prefer to play this game on the internet, instead of visiting land-based casinos.
