Gibraltar the Fastest Growing Online Gaming Haven
Gibraltar the Fastest Growing Online Gaming Haven
November 5th, 2010
With talk that Betfair will be the latest online gaming company to pull up stakes in their native land – Great Britain in this case – and move their operations to the British Territory of Gibraltar, the number of online gambling companies on the tiny island off the coast of Spain has now grown to at least twenty. These companies have been flooding into Gibraltar where gambling tax is not as high as their home countries and/or territories.
The first company do jump ship was Victor Chandler International back in 1998 when they relocated some of its operations to Gibraltar to escape from VAT which England had imposed. The move was done to save both the business and its customer base.
Online gambling companies in Gibraltar have been supporting an estimate of 2,000 employees, making them one of Europe's top employing territories. Although the country has a small land area, it has turned into an online gambling Mecca where a lot of the reliable gaming companies wanted to base their operations. Gibraltar's small size land area is one of its best features which make it more attractive to online gambling companies. This small island is attracting a huge percentage of online gambling businessmen and their companies, and with the unstable economic situation in most of the world's four corners, it is expected that Gibraltar's influence will only grow larger in the industry.
