Full Tilt Poker's Irish Bank Account Unfrozen
Full Tilt Poker's Irish Bank Account Unfrozen
May 28th, 2011
It's believed that the US DoJ recently unfroze one of the bank accounts belonging to Full Tilt Poker that was seized during the Black Friday scandal on April the 15th 2011. It's said that the Full Tilt Poker bank account in question contains more than a third of the money the company still owns to American players.
Despite this move, Full Tilt Poker has so far not released any statement regarding the matter, or about when US players will be refunded. Experts say that Full Tilt is still negotiating with the US DoJ about the unfreezing of its other eight seized accounts.
The bank account in question is registered in Ireland and was frozen after the US DoJ announced Irish officials that money in the account supposedly originates from illegal sources. After this event, several other banks also decided to freeze Full Tilt accounts, despite the fact the US DoJ didn't request it.
Another source claims that Full Tilt Poker owner Ray Bitar desperately tried after Black Friday to convince several international investors to purchase Full Tilt shares in order for the company to raise up to 150 million dollars, making it possible to refund players. Unfortunately for him, nobody was interested in the deal because of fear from the Unites States Department of Justice.
As of now, it's uncertain when, or if Full Tilt Poker will compensate its American players. The company assured its users a few weeks ago that all money will be returned eventually, but didn't gave any precise date when this will happen.
On the other hand, looking at the company's current financial and legal troubles, several industry analysts believe a refund will not happen anytime soon, if at all. But nothing can be concluded yet, as things might change quickly, proven also by the recent unfreeze of Full Tilt's Irish account.
