Read this article and save it for further reference, because it contains all commonly used craps terms and offers an explanation to each one of them.

Online Craps Terms

  • House Edge: This term denoted the advantage the casino has over the players and is represented by a percentage.
  • Any Craps: This is a bet on the outcome that the player will roll a 2, 3 or 12 and it pays out 7 to 1 and has a house edge of 11%.
  • Any Seven: A bet on the outcome that the shooter will get a 12. It pays out 4 to 1 and has a house edge of 16.7%, which makes it a really bad bet.
  • Buy Bets: This allows you to bet on 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, and 8, and you'll win if one of these numbers is being rolled before a 7. For this bet you'll need to pay a 5% commission if you win.
  • Come Out Roll: This is the first roll in each round and it establishes the "point". If you made a pass bet, then you'll win, if the come out roll is 7 or 11 and lose if it's 2, 3 or 12. In the case of don't pass bets if this roll is 2 or 3, or 12, you win, if it's 7 or 11, you lose.
  • Point: This is the number established in the come out roll and they can be 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10.
  • Pass Line Bet: A bet made before the come out roll which makes you a winner if the come out roll is a 7 or 11, or when a point is rolled before a 7. If the come out roll is a 2, 3 or 12 then you will lose. The house edge is 1.41%.
  • Don't Pass Line Bet: A bet on the likely outcome of a roll to be 2, 3 or 12. It's also made before the come out roll and has a house edge of 1.40%.
  • Big Red: This is a betting on the outcome that the player will get 7 on his next roll.
  • Come Bet: It works the same way as the pass line bet, only that you can make it after the come out roll.
  • Don't Come Bet: It's similar to the don't pass line bet, only that it made after the come out roll.
  • Easy Way: A bet made on the numbers 4, 6, 8 or 10. You win if one of these will get rolled before a 7.
  • Field Bet: A bet that the next roll will be 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12. This wager pays you even money if the result is 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11, and 2 to 1, if it is 2 or 12.
  • Place Bets: This is a bet on a place number that can be 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. You win if one of these gets rolled before a 7 and the house edge can vary from casino to casino.
  • Lay Bet: They work the opposite way like a buy bet, meaning that you win if a 4, 10, 5, 9, 6, or 8 gets rolled, but only after a 7.
  • Horn Bet: A bet on 2, 3, 11, or 12 for the next roll.
  • Shooter: A typical craps term for the player.
  • Natural: A come out roll that's either 7 or 11.
  • Payout: Your winning money.
