Blackjack Rules

Blackjack is a relatively easy game to play, but it still requires a great deal of strategy and thought if you intend to become a winner.

First, you need to understand how the game itself works, and after you've learned the basics you can progress to more difficult topics, like blackjack card counting or blackjack shuffle tracking.

But let's just learn the basics first and keep the more complicated blackjack strategies to other articles. Read this article if you want to learn how to play blackjack. It's a guide you must understand, and remember all the advice it contains if you want to earn real money by playing blackjack.

How to Play Blackjack

In blackjack, your aim is to beat the dealer, by either getting a hand with card's total value being 21, or as close as 21, but higher than the dealer's cards. You are also not allowed to go over 21 because if you do, you "Bust" which means you lose.

When a game of blackjack begins, the dealer will give you two cards face up and two cards to himself one face down, one face up, and based on this you can take several decisions. The most common action in blackjack is "hit", meaning you ask the dealer to give you another card. When you decided not to accept any cards, you say or press "Stay", depending if you play blackjack online or live.

Tip: The dealer is required to hit if his hand value is below 17. If it goes above 17 and doesn't bust, the dealer must always stay. This is good to remember as it will give you a strategic advantage if you've learned how to count cards in blackjack.

There are other actions you can do in blackjack, like taking insurance, surrender, double down, split and more. Read our additional blackjack game guides to learn more about these things.

How to Bet in Blackjack

In a blackjack game before the cards are being dealt you'll be required to place a bet. It's common that most online blackjack sites offer blackjack tables with a minimum or maximum allowed bet. This is in order to give a better chance for lower skilled players to win.

You should always be aware of your skills and only choose the appropriate table. If you are a beginner, you might want to play at a table with a lower maximal bet limit because high skilled players usually prefer the better paying games.

But the same is valid for your bankroll, meaning you shouldn't play at a table that has a high maximal limit, if you are afraid to lose your money. Even if you're a pro player it might very well happen you lose all your money.

Advice: Never place insurance bets. Insurance bets are possible if the dealer's initial face up card is an ace and will reward you with money if the dealer hits blackjack, but you'll nevertheless lose your initial bet.

Blackjack Strategy

Blackjack is both a game of luck and a game of skill. It's a game of luck because there is no way to influence the cards being dealt out, and it's a game of skill, because if you play with strategy you can predict what cards will be dealt next.

These techniques are called blackjack card counting and blackjack shuffle tracking. It's not that hard to learn these, but you usually need to exercise a lot until you can use them to your advantage. In a typical game of blackjack where up to seven people play, it's extremely hard to keep track of the cards, but this is what all is about, therefore, you need to practice a lot.
